Main Purpose of the Role:
Reports to: Nursery Manager
Main Duties
1. Overall responsible for planning sheets and record keeping of all the staff in designated room
2. Ensure routines are being followed and room is run smoothly
3. Ensure new decisions are taken on board and maintained in the room at All times
4. Ensure all staff in the room has all information
5. Ensure that all relevant handovers happen between rooms and coat pegs are completed before children start.
6. Ensuring that all policies and procedures are being followed by all staff
7. Keep minutes of room meetings
8. Aspire to be an excellent role model to your peers
9. Understand all policies and procedures of the nursery and being able to answer relevant questions from parents/carers/outside agencies (i.e. OFSTED)
10. Manage staff effectively, ensuring ratio’s are maintained throughout the setting
11. Oversee the professionalism of all staff/students in the setting. Working with students and their supervisor, passing on your knowledge to them, practically and theoretically.
12. Ensure the students allocated to your room are aware of and comply with the policies and procedures of the setting
13. Welcoming all children and parents to the nursery and helping them settle. (Irrespective of their rooms)
14. To provide a wide and varied range of activities for the children individually and as a group appropriate to their needs and developmental stage
15. Laying out and setting up the nursery and storing away equipment appropriately
16. Explaining activities to children and providing help if necessary
17. To encourage the children with their language development and positive verbal response
18. To organise creative activities and displays for the walls and help display the children’s work
19. Maintain a clean and tidy nursery and garden area and ensure books, toys and equipment are clean and in good order
20. Encourage and supervise clearing and tidy up time
21. Provide a high standard of health and hygiene. Change nappies and encourage children with toilet training and personal hygiene
22. Help children at meal times and then tidy and clear away afterwards
23. Act as a key person for a group of children as allocated by the management team, ensuring attachment theories are respected
24. Have a sound knowledge of all the children in the setting and an excellent knowledge of your key children
25. Work in partnership with parents, consulting and sharing information with them about the needs and progress of their children
26. Filling in all the appropriate record keeping for your key child and ensure they are continually up to date
27. Attend and participate in staff meetings
28. To undertake training and give appropriate feedback to the staff team and implement this in your work
29. To take responsibility for aspects of the work of the nursery as required by the management team
30. To ensure adherence to the nursery’s child care procedures and policies within all aspects of the work in the nursery
31. Ensure all staff adhere to the policies and procedures of the setting
32. To exercise a general duty of care for work colleagues and to be responsible for ensuring a safe working environment for all employees/students under your supervision
33. Such other minor and/or non-recurring duties, appropriate to the post, as may be directed by the management team
34. Chair meeting in the absence of the deputy/ 3rd in charge
35. Inform the management team of any concerns regarding the children, parents or other staff
36. It is every member of staff responsibility to ensure professionalism and confidentiality are adhered to at all times
37. Oversee the professionalism of all staff/ students
38. To ensure confidentiality of information received
39. Ensure the children are collected by someone known to the nursery
